Misty Hills, Waterfalls & Weekend Tour Package Near Pune/Mumbai
Pune To Lonavala Trip
From ₹9499
I still remember the first time I drove out of Pune early on a Saturday morning, windows down, and hit that stretch of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway where the ghats suddenly rise up on both sides and the air changes — cooler, damper, greener. That's Lonavala announcing itself before you've even reached it. Barely 65 km from Pune, this little hill town (and its quieter twin, Khandala) has been the go-to weekend runaway for generations of Punekars, and honestly, it never gets old. I've lost count of how many times I've stood at Tiger's Point at 7 AM, coffee in hand, watching the entire valley disappear and reappear under a moving blanket of fog. It's the kind of view that makes you forget you have a laptop waiting for you back home. This trip is built around the things I'd actually tell a friend to do — not a checklist. Climb up to Lohagad Fort on a morning when the steps are slippery with dew and the wind at the top nearly knocks you sideways (worth every step, trust me). Stop by Bhushi Dam if you're visiting in monsoon — yes, it gets crowded, but there's a reason everyone's there, sitting on the rocks letting the water rush past their feet. Drive a little further to Pawna Lake and pitch a tent by the water; the stars out there, away from city light, are something else entirely. If you're someone who likes a bit of history mixed into your holiday, the Karla and Bhaja Caves are a short detour — 2,000-year-old rock-cut Buddhist caves carved into the hillside, quiet, cool, and completely unbothered by time. And obviously, no Lonavala trip is complete without walking out of at least one chikki shop with more bags than you meant to buy. I've put this itinerary together from actual repeat visits, not a brochure — the stays are comfortable without being overpriced, the food is real Maharashtrian home-style cooking, and the pace leaves room to just sit somewhere quiet and do nothing for a while. Because honestly, that's half the point of coming here.

Day-wise Itinerary
Day 1 — Pune to Lonavala: Forts and Valleys
Day 1 — Pune to Lonavala: Forts, Valleys & That First Cup of Chai
6:30 AM — Departure from Pune
Start early, genuinely — the expressway drive is half the experience, and you want to catch it before the sun's fully up and the trucks take over. Pack a flask of chai if you're the type; you won't need it long because there's better waiting at the other end.
8:00 AM — Breakfast stop at a ghat-road dhaba
Somewhere along the Khandala ghats, pull over at one of the small roadside stalls for kanda poha and cutting chai with the valley spread out below you. This, honestly, is where the trip actually begins for me.
9:30 AM — Lohagad Fort trek
A moderate climb, about 1–1.5 hours up, but the views from the top over the Pawna backwaters make you forget your legs are burning. Carry water, wear proper shoes — the steps get slick if it's rained recently.
1:00 PM — Lunch, Maharashtrian thali style
Back down and into town for a proper home-style thali — pithla bhakri, varan bhaat, and if you're lucky, someone's grandmother's recipe for something you didn't know you needed.
3:00 PM — Bhushi Dam
Yes, it's touristy. Yes, go anyway. There's something about sitting on those rocks with water rushing over your feet that resets a person. Go later afternoon when the crowd's thinned a little.
5:30 PM — Check-in and evening at leisure
Settle into your stay, freshen up, maybe nap through the golden hour if you're tired from the trek — no judgment here.
7:30 PM — Dinner & bonfire (if staying near Pawna)
If your stay includes a lakeside or campsite setup, this is the evening for it — bonfire, some music, and a sky full of stars you don't get back in Pune.
Day 2 — Khandala & the Slow Drive Back
7:00 AM — Sunrise at Tiger's Point (Duke's Nose)
Set your alarm for this one. Getting there just before sunrise, watching the fog lift off the valley in real time — it's the single best fifteen minutes of the whole trip, and it costs nothing.
8:30 AM — Breakfast at Khandala
A quieter, less crowded version of Lonavala — good for a slow breakfast and a walk without elbowing through tourist groups.
10:00 AM — Karla & Bhaja Caves
A short detour but worth it if you like a bit of history — 2,000-year-old rock-cut Buddhist caves, cool and quiet inside, a nice contrast to the busy viewpoints.
12:30 PM — Lunch and last-minute chikki shopping
No one leaves Lonavala without a few extra bags of chikki, fudge, or those little mango-flavored candies — get lunch first, shop after, or you'll be carrying groceries around a restaurant.
2:00 PM — Wax Museum or Ryewood Park (optional, weather-dependent)
A relaxed way to spend a couple of hours if it's too hot or rainy for more outdoor stops.
4:00 PM — Depart for Pune
Head back with the windows down one last time, beating the evening traffic if you leave by 4.
6:00 PM — Arrive back in Pune
